First Login & Connections

Two sign-ins power EPM Commander: your Captain EPM account (license) and your Oracle EPM Cloud connection (environment). Set up both once — switching later is one click.

Sign In to Captain EPM

  1. Click Sign In in the Home group of the ribbon.
  2. Authenticate with your Captain EPM account. This validates your license and unlocks the ribbon.
  3. Your profile button in the Help group shows license details at any time.

Connect to Oracle EPM Cloud

Click EPM Connections to open the connection manager:

  • Saved environments — store as many environments as you need (PROD, TEST, DEV…) and switch with one click. Credentials are stored encrypted on your workstation.
  • Authentication methods — basic authentication for environments without MFA, and OAuth 2.0 device code where single sign-on or MFA is enforced. Oracle's REST APIs do not accept basic authentication for MFA users, and a browser session cannot be reused for them either, so SSO environments need a one-time setup by an identity domain administrator: see SSO & MFA Setup.
  • Module detection — after connecting, EPM Commander detects the application type and shows the matching ribbon groups (Planning Controls for Planning, FCC Controls for FCCS).

Sync Metadata

Click Sync Metadata after connecting — and after significant outline changes. This refreshes the dimensions, cubes, and members used by the analyzers, security tools, and the AI Assistant. The dialog stays up until indexing has genuinely finished — the snapshot tables are empty for about two minutes mid-index, so let it close itself rather than dismissing it early.

Signing Out

The Sign Out menu lets you end the Captain EPM session, disconnect from EPM Cloud, or both at once (Sign Out All).
